Mutual Aid and Communications Committee

The Mutual Aid and Communication Subcommittee meets every third Wednesday of every month at 2:00 pm at the Broward County EOC. The meetings usually last about an hour.

The primary focus of the committee is to improve and enhance communications between the 22 fire departments in Broward County. There are 110 fire stations in the county operated by 22 municipalities including Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue. These stations protect 1.75 million people in a 1,200 square mile area. Emergency 911 calls are answered by 12 PSAP's (Public Safety Answering Points) distributed throughout the county.

Participation in the Mutual Aid and Communication Subcommittee by each agency is crucial in order to maintain clear lines of communications, particularly during large-scale incidents. The backbone of this communication is accomplished through the Fire Chief's Association of Broward County's MARS (Mutual Aid Response System) and the mutual aid radio channels operated by Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue.
